PTM is the Foundation of Security!

Overview
Course content

Description

Physical Threat Modeling (PTM) is a structured approach that aims to identify and prioritize potential threats and vulnerabilities to an organization's assets.

It involves identifying threatening actors, their motivations, and the methods they might use to attack the organization or business.

PTM also involves clearly and systematically identifying, assessing, and managing risks and opportunities. This ensures that all decisions can be justified and are consistent with the organization's objectives.

Physical Threat Modeling answers the three basic questions in the field of security.

- Which assets need to be protected?

- Who is interested in the organization's assets?

- How does the adversary operate?

Only after these three questions have been answered can we take the appropriate measures and explain their necessity for effective security.

A physical threat model shows how effective security measures are. It also emphasizes the need for these measures to control risks.

The implementation of measures depends on the board's willingness to accept risks.

The board makes these decisions by weighing costs, process impact, reputation, and other factors.

The PTM helps make informed decisions about risk management and understand its consequences.
