Description
Physical Threat Modeling (PTM) is a structured approach that aims to identify and prioritize potential threats and vulnerabilities for the assets of an organization.
It involves identifying threat actors, their motivations, and the methods they might use to attack the organization or company.
PTM also involves the clear and organized identification, assessment, and control of risks and opportunities. This ensures that all decisions can be justified and align with the organization's goals.
Physical Threat Modeling provides answers to the 3 basic questions in security.
- Which assets needs protection ?
- Who is interested in the assets of the organization?
- What is the method of operation of the adversary?
We can take the right measures and explain their necessity for effective security only after answering those three questions.
A Physical Threat Model shows how effective security measures are. It also highlights the need for these measures to control risks.
The implementation of measures depends on the board's willingness to accept risks,
The board makes these decisions by weighing costs, process impacts, reputation, and other factors.
The PTM helps in making informed risk management decisions and understanding their consequences.
